Ultherapy Q&A

What is Ultherapy?

The ultimate in nonsurgical, noninvasive anti-aging treatments, Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to lift and tighten your skin, stimulating collagen production while improving your skin’s texture and appearance.

An FDA-approved procedure, Ultherapy lifts the skin on your neck, under your chin, and around the brows. Dr. Carretero and Maggie also use Ultherapy to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the chest and collarbone area.

How does Ultherapy work?

The ultrasound therapy used by the team at Lower Highlands Dermatology allows Dr. Carretero and Maggie to see the layers of your skin in real time, enhancing their ability to focus the energy exactly where you need it.

Unlike other collagen-enriching skin treatments, the ultrasound energy created during this treatment bypasses your skin’s surface, penetrating deep into its layers and stimulating your body’s natural production of collagen.

What happens during an Ultherapy treatment?

When you arrive at Lower Highlands Dermatology for your Ultherapy appointment, your practitioner cleanses your skin, preparing it for the treatment. Once ready, they apply a gel to your skin then place the ultrasound applicator over the treatment area. This allows them to view deep inside your skin to identify the most effective place to administer the treatment.

With the Ultherapy device, they deliver ultrasound energy into your skin’s inner structures. You may feel the energy penetrating your skin, and it may be uncomfortable. Taking ibuprofen prior to the procedure is recommended for most patients.  Most face and neck sessions take 60-90 minutes, while a chest treatment is about 30 minutes.

As soon as your skin specialist completes your treatment, you can return to your normal activities without any downtime.

How soon can you see results after Ultherapy?

Although you may see some benefits immediately after your Ultherapy treatment, optimal results develop 2-3 months post-treatment, as it takes time for your body to restore its natural collagen production.

As collagen develops, the skin on your face and neck lifts and the skin across your chest and collarbones smooth, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
